GIVE PRIVATE PRISONS THE BOOT--Richard Cordray, Democratic candidate for Attorney General, gestures during a news conference, in front of the Rhodes Tower, in Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday, July 29, 1998. Cordray was critical of opponent Betty Montgomery, Gov. George Voinovich, and the Republican controlled legislature. Cordray called for the closing of Youngstown's Northeast Ohio Correctional Center. Six inmates escaped from the controversial private prison last week, and since the facility opened in May of 1997 there have been 2 murders and 13 stabbings.
