THE MAYOR MARCHES--Columbus Ohio Mayor Gregory Lashutka marches in the annual Martin Luther King Jr. parade held in Columbus, Ohio, on Monday, Jan. 20, 1997. A smaller crowd than in the past attended the event, after some black leaders called for a boycott of the city-sponsored march, due to controversies concerning the suspension of Columbus Police Chief James Jackson, and the firing of Equal Opportunity Director Gwendolyn Rodgers who are both African American.


STOP RACISM--Jeffery Loeffer, of Marion Ohio, is unaware of a "Stop Racism" sticker on his back as he attempts to disrupt the annual march to honor Martin Luther King, Jr., in Columbus, Ohio, on Monday, Jan. 20, 1997. Loeffer was the lone protester.
