BAKERS WANT MORE DOUGH--AFL-CIO member Larry Ward joins more than 600 employees of the Kroger Co.'s bakery who are striking, in Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999. Ward, who has worked at the bakery for 26 years, is a member of the Local 55 of the International Machinists and Aerospace Workers, which represents the bakery's 58 maintenance workers. 567 members of Local 57 of the Bakers, Confectioners and Tobacco Workers have joined in and refused to cross the picket line.
